The need for sunblock on Hillclimb day must be a first and the superb weather tempted a healthy turn out from a number of clubs for our annual tortuous event then, at the last minute... well a little later than that actually. A number of PZW riders also turned up to ride. Surely we must be the only club where riders get lost on the way to their own event!
The results were dominated by a cracking performance by Chris Opie, after warming up for what must have felt like an eternity. Martin Lenny put in a blistering performance to take second, apparently uses the hill for hill reps, it obviously works. Third place for Stan Thompson showing great promise, we will be looking forward to seeing his name in many more results next year. Garry James was the fastest PZW rider and keeps the trophy for a second year. Special mention to Stewart Kiellor who rode a BMX bike up the hill, now that can't be easy.
Many thanks to John Garwell for starting and Mike Tonkin for timekeeping. Also many thanks to the people who lined the route giving encouragement where it was most needed.
Hope you all noticed that I avoided making reference to the horse boxes blocking my route up the hill. Aaargh! (Wasn't going to bring this up, but Gary referencing his cold, has probably opened the flood gates for excuses.)
